School of Humanities and Social Sciences / Division of Learning & Teaching
Session Type: Quick Talk
When: Friday 20th November 2020, 10.00 am to 11.00 am
Abstract: ‘Understanding Ageing’ was launched in 2020 as a free online program hosted on the Open Learning platform, via Charles Sturt’s ‘Open Pathways’ project, to promote and introduce our gerontology courses to potential students. The program was designed to also create a learning resource for community older adults and families, as they experience ageing and related challenges. This session will reflect on: the educational design process (including use of adult learning principles, universal design, accessing open education resources as evidence, and engaging different target groups of learners); educational lessons learned of relevance to gerontology teaching at CSU; and student engagement and outcomes. The Understanding Ageing project enabled us to reimagine ageing education to provide a highly accessible informal education option in a time and area of considerable community importance via a program that interacts with our formal courses and meets CSU values (inclusive, impactful, inspiring) contributing to a thriving regional community.
