Abstract: The partnership between the School of Indigenous Australian Studies and the HEPPP Retention team has facilitated student engagement with tutor support through the Embedded Tutors Program. The School of Indigenous Australian Studies works closely with the HEPPP retention team to support students in large first year foundation subjects (IKC100 & IKC101). Commencing undergraduate students have the opportunity to meet via Zoom with subject content experts who provide one-on-one draft assessment feedback on key assessment tasks. Institutional commitment to the student experience in the early stages of university has the greatest potential to exceed student expectations. Students who met with a tutor had higher than average assessment marks and cumulative subject marks than students who did not attend a session. Feedback from students was incredibly positive, with 78% of students rating the tutor session ‘extremely helpful’.
